Useful Gmail Tips

Useful Gmail Tips

Gmail continues to be one of the most popular email services, behind only the iPhone. This means that LOTS of your subscribers are using Gmail (and there's a good chance that you are as well!)

I recently found a great read with some really useful Gmail tips both for running my OWN emails, personal and Google Apps for business. But in addition, it's helpful to know what your SUBSCRIBERS may be doing with your emails as well!

For example... here are just a few that could (1) help you simplify your own email box and (2) give you some insight on how your subscribers may or may not be interacting with your email!

Here are some to take a look at...

1. Mass Unsubscribe (this let's people unsubscribe right from Gmail vs. search for the unsubscribe link in the message itself). This is NOT to say you should remove he unsub link in your email, but just another way that subscribers can opt out easily.

2. Gmail Offline (this lets you handle email when you're offline, like traveling on a plane for example). Keep in mind that this will also impact open rates and users can't click through if they're not online.

3. Filters (We're all probably familiar with filters in Gmail to some extent, but you can use this to ENHANCE your marketing by teaching your subscribers to add tags and filters to YOUR messages as they come in. Andre Chaperon of Autoresponder Madness does this EXTREMELY well)

4. Snooze Email (this lets you come back to an email in a few days or weeks, when you have time to deal with it. There's a chrome extension called 'Snooze Your Email for Gmail'). While I'm not sure you want to train subscribers to use this, it's a handy little tool for you to come back to messages that you want to read at a later date, but don't have time now (while still keeping your inbox down to zero!)

5. Use Primary/Important Inbox option. This (or alternatively the tabs) will allow you to sort your email quickly and remove unwanted mail in one big sweep. Keep in mind your customers are doing this also, so in your early communication, be sure to train your subscribers to put YOUR mail in the Primary (or important) section of their inbox. Not only does this help with deliverability, it keeps you front and center...
